Shredding paper

I have 2 society finches. I do not know the genders. There is no nest in their cage. One of the finches is constantly pecking, pulling, and tearing the newspaper that is in the cage tray at the bottom of the cage. It then takes the paper to a perch. Could this mean it's wanting to build a nest??

Yes, and it means that finch is a male.

Not necessarily, but if she never does it's likely. Males are the nest builders in most finches, I have never had a female society finch tear paper to nest with.

It's means it should be a male but sometimes females do this however if it sings and dances it's a boy if they haven't sang or danced then they are girl read my thread on (sexing society finches is easy )I have about 3 things that tell u the differnec

Actually sometimes they do like my female society does think it's because she was in with 5 boys and 2 girls as a nestlings
