Lucky! None of the pet shops around me will buy birds from private breeders, and not many people online want birds, either. One of the pet shops I frequent has had many of the same birds for over a year, so people must not want them.
Wow that's strange. My pet shop as soon as they heard I was breeding Zebs, asked to buy them off me. Fraza how much do they pay you for a zeb? They buy Zebs off me for $7 and sell them on for $12 at our pet shop. Not sure about budgies, never actually sold them. And another shop down here buys Zebs for $8 and sells them on for $14.

Yes I think they run out of zebra finches quite often.

I guess most people buy birds to look at in an aviairy, not actually breed. And then people who do start in to breeding have lots of deaths with both babies and adults and then they end up buying more birds...

Just make sure you know what you'll do with the babies. I don't know about the situation in your area, but hardly anyone wants budgies where I am. It took a couple of weeks before anyone would take two budgies, a cage, and their toys; everything was free, but there was still little interest.
Wow free!! If it was here, I bet it would have been snatched up so fast.

Oh okay yeah. We only have like 2 pet shops here ( 1 of which barely has any pets ) and then we have a garden centre that sells some birds too.

Flight Feathers

All of the nearby pet stores I know of are chain stores, and have a contract with Sun Pet, and maybe some other animal mills, that says they can't buy animals from independent suppliers. It quite a shame, because few of their birds are good quality; several they've received have air sac mites and who knows what else. One of the employees was saying that most privately-bred birds are healthier, but the store can't purchase them due to that contract.

Oh that is very annoying then! I guess our pet shop doesn't have that because they will buy animals from anyone!

So birds aren't in very high demand in the USA?

Oh okay that's annoying. Yeah birds sell pretty quick here, and I know of a couple breeders in my area.
