Difference between male and female long tail finch

Post by Mimianil » Thu Mar 29, 2018 3:06 am

Some days before I bought two long tail finches from a pet shop. The shop keeper told me one is male and another is female. But now I think the two are female. How can I identify the male and female long tail finch by appearence.

What kind of finch do you have? A picture would help. It seems there are more females for sale than males. Most shop keepers either don't know what they are or just want to make a sale, and a pair sounds pretty good.

You sex them on the size of the bibs. The male's bibs is generally wider and more oval. The bib can sometimes can be pear-shaped with the wide part at the bottom.

Sorry, I forgot about it. The most glaring difference between the sexes is that the cock's tail feathers is about 6 to 10 mm longer than the hen's tail-feathers.
