Chick in cracked egg on cage floor

Post by jlt1960 » Thu Apr 12, 2018 9:54 am

Hi everyone. I guess all the eggs are not infertile after all. Found one empty on cage floor today along with another one that was cracked open and baby seen but not breathing inside it. The due dates for them to be born is today. I think there is one more they are still incubating. Maybe that one will be ok. Does this mean the parents tossed it for some reason? They never tossed any of them in the first successful clutch we had so I have ruled out inexperience. Thanks.

What kind of finches?

If babies die hatching, they will toss them from the nest.

Gouldians are tough. I've had pairs that would not raise, the next clutch were perfect parents, and ones that were perfect parents toss the next batch. Gotta keep an eye on them......
