adding males?
I have 6 society finches
1 male light fawn - he never sang for the breeder while in the cage with other males.
4 female light fawn
1 mostly black female
Had for a couple of days in stArter cage until large cage assembled
The breeder had 2 males available.
He let me keep the males overnight, they r in separate cage next to my birds.
The black female really was determined when she heard and saw the new males.
She did get a bit aggressive with the other female that waa interested pecking at her to make her leave.
They r currently the 6 of them a pretty peaceful and happy bunch.
Will adding the 2 males likely cause the 1st male to go back to not singing?
Will there be more fighting between females or males if add the 2 males?

How much do males sing when together?
My 1 male just sings occasionally which I'm ok with.
I don't love the society finch male song, it is just tolerable to me, most of the time.
I'd wanted only females but 1 female turned out to be a definite he.
And the black female is a lot on her own separate perch tho she is joining the others a bit more.
No more females available in black for a companion for her and I prefer even numbers.
Need to decide tomorrow

Re: adding males?
I realize the current cage they r in is too small.
I have the new cage for them, just waiting for assembly next week.

The less dominant male might not sing as much, but he should still sing occasionally. If all of the males are around the same place in the hierarchy, or if the cage is quite large, all of your males might sing more as they try to outsing their neighbors.
Society finches are generally very peaceful, so I wouldn't worry about fighting. There may be a bit of beak-fencing, and the males will likely chase the females while displaying, but they shouldn't bother each other too much. Give them a couple of weeks, and they should calm down a bit.

Re: adding males?
I would add more males they don’t care usually but I do agree with icestorm one of the males will become the most dominant and he will be the one to sing most
