I know! Took awhile to find them. Bought a pair years back for $15 each....way back!

Wow, that's a deal! I suppose that would have been worth quite a bit more in today's money, but lots of finches seem pretty expensive now.

It'd be a shame not to breed them, seeing how rare they're getting. Members of the First Coast Finch and Softbill Society would most likely want to buy a few babies if you can get your pair to breed. You can find them on Facebook: FCFSS. Sales are technically not allowed on that site, but I still wouldn't be surprised if someone asks.

I know. I'm just afraid of the whole egg binding thing and special feeding...etc

I bred lots of Strawberries. As long as they have access to minerals like crushed egg shells, etc., egg binding shouldn't be a problem. The main thing is giving them enough calcium to replace what the hen uses up making eggs. Feeding is also easy, as mine bred without live food for the most part, but lots of homemade egg food and veggies. Freeze-dried blood worms (fish food) provided extra protein.
