White Eye Asian Finch
Hello Everyone,
I'm a new member - does anyone know where to buy White Eye Asian finch? I have one and would like to get another one to pair up.

White-eyed Montane is what we call them I think.

I don't think they are finches at all but are a type of soft-bill. If you update your profile to show where you are located it will make this question a bit easier to answer as we have no idea where you are.
I believe some of the South African members enjoy them wild in their gardens. Those of us in the US could probably purchase them from Birds Express:

or Paradise Earth/Bird Products:

I live in Northern Virginia...this type of finch is very hard to find.
Thanks for the info.

Re: White Eye Asian Finch
We get a different species of white eye here. Cape white eye, but can purchase Montane white eye's through specialist dealers.
I'd suggest you look up soft bill traders / breeders in your area and see if they have any.

You could try asking on the NFSS forum as well. There are more soft-bill breeders there.

Thanks everyone!
Thus far, from the inputs I've received, I've not able to find any info on the white eye finch yet.
Not giving up though...

Re: White Eye Asian Finch
The first time I ever saw them was at the "Finch Farm" site. I have not seen them on this site lately, but maybe they will become available. Keep your eye out for them. Best of luck!

Re: White Eye Asian Finch
It might help to call the bird by its correct name if you want to find it.
There is no such thing as "white-eye finch", so you may never find it by that name.
White-eyes, which are not finches and not even similar to them, are lovely birds though - I have 4 species myself.

Re: White Eye Asian Finch
There is an Indian White-eye, which is what you may be looking for. As others have said, it is a softbill, not a finch, and from what I have read, White-eyes are often good beginner softbills, which are usually more difficult to keep and raise than most finches. Here is what I found at www.nfss.org:
http://nfss.org/species/softbills/india ... white-eye/
What is usually found in the U.S. is the Montane White-eye, which comes from Africa. A very striking bird, IMO, and one I've always wanted, if I ever venture into softbills.
