i have the bearded barbets as well! LOVE LOVE LOVE THEMMMM

i will have to dig out the old phone to get some pics of the chicks from last year...

they are inside in a parrot cage now waiting on their flight to be finished...

jan- they like a deep nest... and prefer to hollow one out like a toucan (close realtive) a small diameter palm log works well... or a box stuffed with shavings (like mine was) then they can "dig" it out...

will attach some pics of the nest on a separate page for ya...

as for the BEARDED TITS... i sold my pair after learning they do not like out heat and humidity... had a few friends that had tryed them in the past...houston zoo included.... and after seeing them this summer i felt to bad for them and sent them to buddies in MAINE! nice and cold up there!

Thanks Candace :) ... BTW the Tits have been with us for about 2 years now & they are having no issues adjusting to our kind a warm summers down here on the coast without A/C, actually seem to be doing great...

tnx again for the replies .... the young ones having a bit feathers now , i had a short peek lasy night when the parents were outside to catch insects .... i am to scared to take one out for just a picture ... so you gotta wait till they flew out :-)

oghh and my pair ... they love our warm/hot summer and they need a pond with reed or bamboo to breed .... here breeders say no water no babies !!

They sound like an excellent bird for my dream future aviary.... large aviary outdoors with a waterfall pond included :D They would have to be able to take the heat and humidity though.
Would smaller finches be able to be kept with these bearded tits? Like parrot finches or gouldians? Or would they be too aggressive for them... what would be a suitable avaiary inhabitant?

they are in a mixed aviary and they are very social birds , even with the smallest birds .... for breeding its not the best solution , because they are insect eaters and feeding the chicks only with insects .... and these insects as we all know are loved by all african and australian birds .... so you have to feed them like a pound a day to be sure the young ones get enough ...

Mine are with Gouldians, Owls, Stars, Plum heads, & Shaft Tails... They get along great with everyone.. I think the Shaft Tails Confused them for a few days because their coloring was close but everyone seems happy now... I will add a "pond with reed or bamboo to breed .... here breeders say no water no babies !!"
