I see stunning Tangiers located on sites that are for sale. Are these finch type birds? Are they small? Easy to take care of? They are beautiful (and expensive), but I know nothing about their care. Any thoughts?

I think you are talking about Tanagers. I am also interested to know about their care.

they are softbills , and the food is based more on tropical fruits more than seeds and they need a lot more space than finches.

Not sure how difficult is to breed them in captivity, but if you dont know how to handle them, i think you should save your money.

So they may have very watery droppings like Lories and lorikeets who feed on nectar and fruits....kind of messy birds :(

Ok... That is just what I wanted to know. I don't want the messy droppings. They are just really pretty. And yes... I meant Tanagers.

They are beautiful. I considered getting some at one time but they feed mostly on fruit and nectars, and it makes me nervous to think that nectars may be hard to locate at times so I decided to pass on having them.

The ones that I have seen, expensive is an understatement.
They were EXPENSIVE, as in $700 each

That quickly removed them from my list of bird I would like, and could afford.

As for food, the seller said he gives them a mix of soft tofu and something else.

They are not so expensive where I have seen them, but I am not wanting to deal with the mess of a fruit based diet and droppings. They are really pretty though. I guess, I would be more interested in working with them, if I knew someone that had the knowledge to share with me!
