Yeah its funny I actually have them all my birds divided and segregated by continent. I have all the African finches/softbills in the aviary, the Australian birds/doves in large flight cages and the South American birds in a large flight as well. I found out (while expanding on my SA collection) that more tanagers come out of SA than finches, even the saffron finch is a tanager. Also everything is almost always unaffordable. For instance I just ordered a saffron finch which was $70, (probably normal pricing) but the turquoise tanager was $200 alone -.- *le sigh*

Congratulations! That is a very handsome bird. I have Blue Dacnis (dacnis cayana) up here near Jacksonville.
LOVE them! Lots of personality, and I really like the smaller size. They are also not 'cage-bangers' like some tanager species can be.
Have fun with him, hope you find a girl for him!

Thank you! I'm hoping to eventually, perhaps at the Orlando bird show in January.
I'm a little concerned about the "cage banging" with the other tanagers that I just purchased as well, worse comes to worse I build another aviary *sarcastic sigh*

The Dacnis will spoil you.

I bought a pair of gorgeous Opal-Rumped tanagers, that just did not settle down in a large indoor aviary. They were hitting the walls, and stressed when someone walked by. I gave them to a great home to someone with a very large, outdoor aviary within a week of getting them. They are thriving and much happier.
Lesson and limits learned.
The Honeycreepers are similar to the Dacnis, as far as temperament, size, and care. When I have space, *someday* I would love a pair of Red-Legged Honeycreepers.

It wasn't that much!

From Birds Express or Paradise Earth, can't remember.
If you haven't been there - this is a drool-causing site. And, they are VERY nice, and knowledgable.

They should be getting even more in this month.

Oh WOW! I love the Tanagers and the Honey Creepers . I always look at all these pictures and I

They are so beautiful, but I was told that they're messy poopers because of their diets.
I've got a whole list of birds from all over the world that I want. It's like a smorgasbord of lovelies. I look and go: I want this one, and that one, and a couple of these and some of those.....
Anyway, congratulations on your feathered beauty.

So gorgeous!
I'm always eyeing the tanager page on Paradise Earth! (Among others! Goodness help me if I ever get around to placing an order. My bird population will double overnight! LOL I just emailed them yesterday, in fact, to pester them about when they're getting more black throated titmouse....on order, in case you're curious.)
I love these guys and honeycreepers. They're all just so stunning.
Congrats on your new lovely!
Is he housed alone? Or do you have others?
