Chinese Nightingales (Pekin Robins)
I have only been wanting a pair for like 10 years!
So yesterday I traded away my last pair of Strawberry Finches.
They are so bouncy and full of life!
The male did sing a bit last night when the canaries started up!

Jerry, they are gorgeous!!!
I've never come across this type of birds. Are they fairly common in your area? What's the market price for them?

Re: Chinese Nightingales (Pekin Robins)
Thank you everyone!
No they are not common anymore in Canada or the States.
They used to be, but CITES II and the bird flue put an end to that!
Nobody cared to breed them because they were cheep and disposable.
They were imported from China and Hong Kong.
Now it's hard to get them from Europe also.
No one wants to part with them and I don blame them!
There is only one breeder in all of Alberta that I know of and that is who I got this pair from.
I hope to get another pair in a few weeks to a month?
The gentleman wants some of my young Gouldians when they get more colour.
The price varies from $600 to $800 per pair.
So my next pair could cost me up to six Gouldians?
But I'll do it!

Re: Chinese Nightingales (Pekin Robins)
My absolute dream bird! Very few of them in the U.S. They are not easy to breed, which I think is why there just aren't many available since the imports stopped. Your link to the article by Sally Huntington was very interesting. For the past couple of years, she has shown a Pekin Robin at the Nationals, a gorgeous bird.

You have great taste in birds. So jealous! They are not avail here any more for the same reasons. Congrats and best wishes for breeding.

Wonderful Jerry!!!! Mom raised these years ago, loved them!! They require a bit of flight and moving room very active nice song. Boy they loved oranges and mealies.
The last I saw of them in my area was in the mid 90's. They became very rare and very expensive. The import restricts have a lot to do with that. Good luck with them!!!
