Starlings!

For a change, I finally bought 2 "pairs" of starlings: purpe-backed and gross-beak aka finch-billed mynas.
They are fun to watch, but the amount of poo they produce makes me wonder how long they will stay!

Here's a picture of an American Starling (Sturnus vulgaris, which was imported here from Europe in the 1890's). It is considered a pest bird here, and there are a lot of them.

Up close, they have really striking feathers. I heard of a bird show where Sturnus vulgaris actually won, because it was in such great condition. The owner fed him meat.

Is your Starling related to ours?

Congratulations!

I love the silvery coloured birds.

Regarding the poop, is it liquidy?

We have loads of European Starlings by the way. They are considered an invasive species and tend to be very noisy.

Of course they are related to the European Starling, the silvery Violet-backed more closely than the other. The poo is not liquidy nor really smelly, but its quantity alone is an issue - luckily I can house them outdoors.
Indonesia has some really striking species of starling, btw.
