cordon bleus

Post by star » Sat Jul 31, 2010 3:35 pm

Anyone know if you can keep two male cordon bleus together in an aviary with some other waxbills? I know there is some rule about two males, but what if there are no female cordon bleus? There would likely be females of another type of waxbill in the aviary. I am trying to plan out an aviary of waxbills. Thank you for your help anyone.

Two males should be fine, better than two pairs. One true pair would be the best I think. Also remember that the cordons bleus can interbreed so make sure you get same the varieties if you go for an m/f pair.

I think it depends on the size of the aviary. From my experience with cages, two males will usually not get along at all and will do a lot of chasing and fighting. An aviary situation may be completely different. I have two male hybrid RCCB/BCCB in an indoor aviary that is 8'x2.5'x7' (along with only males of other species), and these two siblings get along just fine. In fact, they court each other, allopreen, act for all the world like a m/f pair.
