Re: Bird Building - The Chirp Shire
There is no way they would have fit - maybe with cages in their laps and mine
Hey - Donna your a birdie Grandma now - Cherry babies
They are feeding the little stinkers... so it seems they are doing fine with their babies - rough start but they pulled it together
Speaking of babies - there is a nest that had N I N E CB eggs in it and they were ALL fertile! And, I checked last night and I no longer saw eggs but black and pink babies with fuzz everywhere
I really don't even know how many are in it !!! They have feather doors and the hole to the nest is maybe an 1" wide - and there is no way to see in it but thru that impossible little opening! I guess I won't be banding those babies!

Re: Bird Building - The Chirp Shire
Congrats on your new chicks and eggs... also congrats on you new species...whatever it may be.... my guess is bourke, scarlett or turquoise.... maybe even a caique or my next venture..... a hawk head???
Sounds like you two were the 'girls' at the fair
I agree Donna, always more fun to attend the fairs with a good bird friend
As a matter of fact the reason I traded my BMW for a van was due to bird shows.... needed that room

Oh...I have an idea...rent a tractor trailer with climate control!!!!! You could fit a lot of seed, cages and lots of birds in it...maybe a few finch forum friends inside!!!!
Then again you might have to build another building for the contents of the inside of the truck!!!!!

Re: Bird Building - The Chirp Shire
Well I couldn't stand it anymore I had to move feather doors to see babies!
I washed my hands and then went and put my hands in seed and got that smell all over my hands and then went to look at the CB babies - THEY ARE FEEDING! I can't tell how many babies are in that nest but I saw at least two full crops!!!
I'm so excited - finally I will have parent raised CB babies!
Which also means because of where this nest is - I have to put some of these changes on hold! Never a dull moment!
Thanks everyone ;)
Cindy - Thank God I live in a gated community with lots of rules... I've built all I can on my property
Anna - the Atlanta area has fairs almost monthly - there is another fair coming up in three weeks!
It really is crazy! And, the fairs are usually packed with people each and every time too.

Re: Bird Building - The Chirp Shire
That is Florida for you though - small properties (mainly) well where I'm from anyway but most will allow you to at least build some kind of "shed" except ours looks like a house.
The property I had in Florida actually had a huge backyard and I even had plans for an aviary out there but we ended up moving to Georgia so I never made it that far... I would have had flights galore out there too - plenty of room

We have a huge corner lot...deep to the right side (plenty of room for a nice building) but we are not allowed to build a separate building, it can be part of the exisiting structure or within the pool/patio area. You have to go through approvals, plans, permits, inspections!!!!!

I can't stand it anymore! I have to share now
Meet Sinatra and Streisand
And, their newest beautiful baby!

I love these Canaries - their colors and stripes are the most beautiful I've seen in a long time!
I should also mention they are excellent eaters and this male has 100 and 1 different songs! Everything from soft to extreme... my husband calls him the "iTunes bird"
