I think I'm ready

Post by MRobinson » Sat Mar 19, 2011 11:51 am

I think I'm finally ready for some feathered friends. Cage is all set up. Everything is ready to go. Here's a picture. Please let me know if you can see anything I need to change or if I'm missing something. I'm totally open to all suggestions.

Thanks to everyone for helping me get ready the right way.

Lovely. To facilitate cleaning you could put a couple of sheets of newspaper in the tray or on top of the grate if there is one. Not sure if you need those lower two perches. I only have three perches up high - makes the birds work harder to get up there (exercise more and build up their muscles).

I LOVE that the upper perches are real branches! =D>

I think the two mansita perches should be one fasten to the back and one to front so they have to fly back and forth ,it looks like they could hop from one to other.Oh get some finches as soon as possible not a home till you got finches =D>

Hi Liz,

There is a grate and a tray at the bottom and I have plain newsprint to go in the tray, just haven't put it in there yet. Not sure if I should leave the grate in place or not.

Hi Bill,

The branches are towards the back half of the cage and the front half is entirely open. My thinking was to provide them with a 'home/resting' area (because they won't have nests) and have the open area for flying down to get the food and back. Maybe taking out the two lower perches as Liz suggested would do the trick? Or moving one side to the front and keeping the other on the back? (And I'm hoping to get a couple of finches in there in the next few days)

Hi Candace,

I'm thinking of starting out with a pair of Society Finches (I've had a couple of pairs of them before) and then if all goes well adding a pair of BCCBs. I keep looking at the Zebs though, and Gouldians....I know I'll end up with more cages and birds soon enough lol)

Ooooh take the grate out - IF it does not leave a large gap in the cage where thefinches would be able to get out. Or just lay the newsprint on top of the grate - either way newsprint/newspaper is so much easier to swap out then having to scrub the grate clean!

So many choices of birds to go in there. It's a very good sized cage and I like the greenery too. Well done Mary! =D>
