Owl Finch Fledglings

Post by annague » Mon Apr 04, 2011 1:57 pm

Since I'm just starting with finches I made one of my goals this year to successfully breed some new species (for me) including Owls.

I am blessed that I now have some fledglings from my first pair of owls (4 are out and I can see at least 1 still in the nest) -- wish I could say it was something I did but the Owls did all the work and made it easy on me!

They are cute little feather dusters --!! How I'm going to catch them and put a band on them before they get bigger than Mom and Pop I don't know...they have owlitude written all over them! :)

Squishing their little cheeks is good... a penny a squish (I can be bought)... but no pinching!

I just checked and the 5th and I'm pretty sure last owl baby just now fledged! Boy Mom and Dad have their hands full now...

This was a big clutch I am tickled pink!

Mine is a relatively simple, inexpensive Canon PowerShot SX110IS. I use the MACRO setting a lot for the close-ups but I have no extra lenses or anything that complicated (Please! I wouldn't take a picture if I had to stop and figure it all out -- way too mechanically challenged!)

Then I just unload the memory chip onto my PC -- folderize the pictures and bingo!

Congrats Anna!!! I know what you mean about not being able to take the credit...afterall, it is the parents that do all the work

But kudos for you in providing the right enviroment and food for them to reproduce  Did you feed live foods are dried/eggs?
Beautiful chicks!!

pbbbbbbt on live food! [-( I'm still having a stand-off with my pesky BCCB's and RCCB's who go into tossing mode every time I'm a minute late or a worm short with those mealies.

All egg food and veggies I'm happy to say.
