New to Finches - What's Her Species?

Post by canarysanctuary » Wed Apr 13, 2011 3:10 pm

Hi all!

I'm very new to finch ownership! I love my two little finches, Henry and Anne.
Below is a photo I took of the pair.
At the pet shop they were sold to me as a male and female zebra finch, but I'm not sure of the exact species (or is colouring the right term?) for the female.
You can get an overall idea of her colouring in this photo; she's all this very light "fawn" colour, and has very faint bar markings on her tail and circles on her cheek.

I was wondering, what would her exact "species" be?

She's just laid her first egg this morning, and I'm very excited!

Thanks everyone!

Her species is Zebra Finch. Your thinking of Mutation ;) I'm not familiar with Zebra colors so someone else will be around to help. They are cute though, and Welcome!

Thanks!

Quick internet searches aren't being really helpful, but it seems at the very least "Cream" or "Fawn" mutations (thanks GouldyGirl!) sound like they make sense :)

Definitely Zebra finches - and very tame ones at that! The female may be a fawn Zebra. Very pretty at any rate. Have fun with them!

Thanks everyone!

6finchfriends: They're about 9 months old. I called the pet store and asked, and they gave an estimate on their age. I'll likely be back with lots of questions if it turns out that the eggs are fertilized!
