Disinfecting large branch

Hi:

I'm sure this has been answered before, so my apologies for asking it now. I'll be sure to print up the answer so I won't need to ask it again.

I have some branches that I want to put in my flight (too large to fit in a barrel or the oven. Is there a way that I can get rid of any "coodies"? Spray with bleach? Spray with disinfectant?

i dont know what others used but i always used vanodine for diinfecting anything to do with my birds perches (wood) cage floors fronts and anything else that was going near the birds i would wash it in this stuff,but i dont know if you can get this stuff where you live
it is also iodine based and perfectly safe it was mainly used for poultry but a lot of finch breeders use it it is dilutable so you get a lot for you money,you can also clean all your food pots drinking fountains and feeding utensils in it

everything to to with your birds cages ,perches feeding cups water dishes everything!this is what i always used and its iodine based and dilutable so you get a lot for your money ...thats if they sell it in your part of the world

Simple solution of bleach and water. Soak the branch well for about 30 minutes, scrub with a stiff brush, then soak in a clean tub of water for 30 minutes, then rinse, sun dry for two days....then you are good to go!

can you soak them in the bath tub? my family just love that...trees in the tub!!! I pre-cut them and soak them in large plastic tubs on the porch also!

With something like a large branch, I would spray it with disinfectant (the Vanodine), let it soak in a bit, then rinse off with a garden hose. Let it sit in the sun to dry--should be fine.

i know its not that cheap to begin with,but the multiple uses you get out of it is well worth the money

If I was taking them right off the tree, I just shook them vigorously and then put them right in the cage - never had a problem.

Getting them off the ground was a different story.. I'd soak in a bleach solution and then let dry completely.

Same here... I always use fresh branches, cut off a tree, and don't soak or bleach. Never had a problem.

i must admit i used elder tree branches that had been cut from the bottom hedge i did wash them down though,but i was only recomending the vanodine as something that could be used as a general cleaner for everything bird related ,it started out as a pultry treatment and i used a lot of it when the bird flu epedemic hit us.i even scrubed my wire and birdroom roof with it,when that paticular germ came here

Kenny, can you use the Vanodine while the birds are present? I'm thinking of using it to wash the floor while the birds are in. I already have something called Pet Focus (a germicidal from Mango Pet products), but it directs that "all animals be removed from the premises" during use, and they should not be returned until the product has been "absorbed, set or dried".
