Breeding time?
Do Owl finches come into a "season" where they breed more readily like Gouldians, or is it generally year round like Societies? My pair raised a single chick awhile back, but nothing since.

Re: Breeding time?
My Owls seem to breed just about any time. The biggest problem is getting them to stop when I want a pair to take a rest.

Re: Breeding time?
Thanks Sally. My pair haven't been all that interested in singing or nest building for awhile.

Re: Breeding time?
All birds (including gouldians) are opportunist breeders, meaning that as long as all things are in place they should breed any time of year. The reason they breed at certain times in the wild is because, at them times, all the elements are in place such as, sufficent food supplies, temperature, humidity, day light hours etc, if you can match all these parameters in captivity then they should breed.
15 Gouldian, 40+ mutation Zebs, Societies and 1 Cut-throat (the only one i ever bred)... plus babies everywhere

Re: Breeding time?
My Owls did not get started until I started putting eggfood and nesting material in the cage. That seems to be the case for most of my finches.
