Mystery bird

Post by Ameza » Thu Aug 04, 2011 4:59 pm

Hiya guys.

I was rambling about this bird a few weeks back, gave me quite a surprises when "she" started to sing :)

Well, I did notice one tiny side-flank feather, though I can't really tell the colour.
Can't wait for him to colour up! Will post more pictures when he does so :D
I think his colour is getting more lighter, or more brown...or something. Maybe he is an isabel after all. One way or another, I'm starting to think the parents stole his egg from some other bird

rather puffed up on those pictures, taken a few days ago

I know! Quite amusing, I always assumed this was a girl since it's younger siblings that are male had already shown male feathering. Just a late bloomer I guess

Well Mr. Mystery has molted quite a bit. But still is not really showing me what kind of colour he is.
He has the body of a fawn bird but the black, or that is, gray markings of a silver or isabel.
He also has some orange in his tail bars so I was wondering if he could be split to OB, and has anyone had a fawn ob? Do the black marks maybe reduce in colour because of that?
Or maybe he is a very dark form of isabel, though with no lacing in the wings.

Any ideas :P ?

Took some pictures in better light, since the yellow light in my big cage tends to ruin the colours in photos :?

Here he is in comparison with a male isabel and a fawn BB female. He is to the far left.

Him with the same birds, now to the far right.

And him alone.

It could be a orange breast or split to orange breast...check out the male description from efinch...the tail bars will have orange in it.

Well I talked to some of the guys at yahoo zebra finch forum and there was one that once had a fledgeling that looked just like mine but then molted into a more clear looking isabel!

So I guess he is the dark form of isabel :)

Which is still a huge surprise! Since I did not expect that from this pairing :P

Ameza, my FS and Isabel female gave me a almost chocolate Isabel female. I think it is a female...they are feather pluckers while the young are in the nest no matter what they are supplemented with, the mother does this only to female offspring...the other offspring is a little Isabel. When the babies fledge they look like they have French poodle cuts. I don't breed the pair often but they throw beautiful young, the males are never plucked.

Interesting. I have seen so little of darker aspects of isabel, maybe because many breeders don't go for that colour.

Funky how they pluck the female chicks, I have only had birds that pluck if one or two chicks are in a different colour.

Maybe you'll send me a picture of her if you get a chance to snap one sometime? :)

the mom usually plucks the isabel chick but not the darker one...this is just weird.

virðist vera fawn isabel,
hann hefur allavega mjög
daufar bringurendur.
Ef hann væri bara fawn þá myndu þær sjást meira.
Mjög myndarlegur gaur :)

Look like a fawn isabel to me,
His chest is very dilute, just like on isabels.
If he were just fawn then the chest bars would be more visible.
He is a very cute little guy :)

--

Ah I didn't see you reply until now.
Yes I guess he is fawn isabel, which is soo funny! Because he is from Bíbí and Írena!
Have you seen any EI genes from Mána or Ísis?

Have decided to name him Móri :)

(minnir mig, lol, hef parað svo marga að stundum man
ég ekki allt)
Og Irena er dóttir hans :)
ég ætla að vona að þetta sé frá honum komið

No, but it's possible that he carrie this genes..
Irena is his daughter so.. I hope this is his genes,
because I had to give Irena's mom away..
