Cage set up....part of them!!! ;)

Post by cindy » Wed Sep 14, 2011 9:31 pm

Today I decided to stack my cages to conserve on space and make it a bit easier to clean, feed and water....this is only part of my collection

I have to put the lights back up for them, I have under the counter one. I was thinking of changing to rope lights across the top front of the cages. Not sure if it would be enough light for them. I like the idea of the lights in a plastic tube, to keep dirt and water off of the bulbs.

Rope lights are a creative idea, Cindy. They actually put out some decent light. If you try them out let me know how you like them. I might give them a try myself.

While you are 'on the line' so to speak: how many bonded adult owl pairs would you put in a cage together??

Also, do your lone female owls get so possessive of eggs that they will take over a Society nest? I have one that just did that... I was sort of shocked the Societies let her do that.

Anna, I have two owl only flights, I had them in with other species but their was to much nest steaing and the owls seemed to loose out. My ows are much happier. The number of breeding pairs in a cage depends on how big the cage is, what size cage do you have?

Your hen may have an egg in the society nest that she is trying to incubate.

It's pretty huge -- about 8' long by 4' wide and 6' high.

I have one bonded pair of owls in this cage and 2 single mature, adult female owls (I will be picking up mates for them this weekend).

My two single hens have been bickering quite a bit with each other and the bonded pair so I wonder how they will do when they get mates?

Do you think I should separate them or wait and see how they do together (all three pairs when I get the males)?

I had the new additions after quarantine in a cage near the flight so they got use to seeing each other for a few days before adding them to the flight. I currently has 3 hens and two males plus a few offspring in one flight.
