What a great video! How did you get it to be so clear? Mine always turn out blurry.

Love the hatchling. They are so cute when they beg! Congratulations.

Thanks Deborah, First I put the pocket point 'n shoot camera on Macro (the flower) setting, then I switch to Video. Place the camera over top of the nest and press record. The focus is all automatic (thankfully)! It's an older Canon PowerShot SD750 Digital Elph I bought back in 2008.

Maybe that's my problem with photos/videos. I never tried the Macro (flower) setting.

Thanks for the tip.

What an adorable CM baby, also the 5 day-old ones! I have never seen BBCBs, but that pair looks like a BCCB male an possibly an RCCB hen to me--see how she sits on the perch, very much like RCCBs sit.

Liz, what an adorable baby!

So strong already

! And that nest is fabulous! Love their singing too. What is the reason for separating Dad? Will the hen do all the feeding and incubating from now on?

Thanks Sally - I was hoping someone could ID the hen. Good to know.

Thanks for the comments re the Cuban chick - now there are TWO.
I put the divider in the cage as soon as I saw the chick as I have had several cases of the father tossing chicks and injuring them severely in the process of tossing. I have also had a case of him having killed chicks that were about to fledge (probably males). So to resolve that, I now separate him from the hen. The hen always goes on to fully take care of the chicks and eggs until the are fledged and weaned.
I tried removing the male to a separate cage the first time (giving the hen the entire cage) but the hen just spent all her time looking and calling for him non-stop. She ignored the babies until I brought the male back so she could see him. This way the babies are safe and the hen can take care of them while keeping an eye on her mate.

And so I just learned something interesting about CM's.
It sounds like they are similar to canaries that way...
