Has any one ever seen a Phino zebra finch?

Post by cindy » Sat Oct 15, 2011 8:44 am

This mutation sounds interesting...apparently not seen to much or if at all anymore

http://finchgathering.findforum.net/t68 ... rms-part-i

"Phino - Literally 'phaeomelanin Ino'. An autosomal mutation that results in the complete
reduction of eumelanin in the Zebra Finch. Phinos only had orange markings and were simi-
lar in appearance to the double factored Florida Fancy, only Phinos had red eyes. This mutation was lost."

That is too bad the mutation is lost. I've never seen one, but sounds interesting.

Acoording to this forum a man in India posted a picture of one in his flock, you will have to scroll down a bit to look at a closeup. It looks like a Florida Fancy with bright red eyes.

Maybe they are all gone!

What a neat bird! There has too be one out there, somewhere. [-o< The only way I can imagine to bring it back is too cross it over to an albino society and crossing back over. :? If that is even possible. Maybe there's an albino zebra out there. If you ever find one be sure to tell about it! =D>

the guy seems to have a male and female. If I were him I'd set up a breeding cage. Maybe he'll bring them back.

The trait somehow weakens the bird and they dont live long, maybe he can bring it back with careful breeding.

Why an albino society?? Phino is a zebra. That would be a hybrid, would the offspring not be fertile? Would it not be better to skip the society and use a zebra.
