Those are not staffords and don't look like glousters either. These birds are type bred and are very stocky and thickly feathered.
There are many crested types of canaries. The original crested canary was bred before the crested norwhich, glousters, of staffords... their is a type canary simply called crested .
The crested can also be colorbred, explaining the vast array of colors the breeder had. .and some even song trained and can make good singers.
There are many kinds of canaries, they fall into 3 groups
1 type canaries
2 song canaries
3 colobred canaries

Many times a kind of canary can exhibit some of all groups.... for example the stafford is a type canary...but also is a colobred canary because they are always red. Glousters are only a type canary..they are not bred for color, nor song.
The american singer, timbrados and others are bred for their magnificant song....
The american singer can also be bed for color...the red factors...and they can also be crested..
I vote that yours is a classic american crested :D
here is a link to the beginning of understanding cresteds.. just because a bird has a crest does not make it a glouster or stafford.. you have to look at the body build, the feather quality, the song ability and more...

Cando you are probably right I thought my friend said the father was a Stafford. I saw here Glosters and they were different in shape and size. I will have to talk to her again and find out for sure.
What ever they are I am thrilled to have them =D>

Thanks for your expertise =D> =D>

OK Cando I called the gal I got my birds from and she checked her records:

Unos Father is Lance a Crested Stafford and his mother is a Red Factor.

Mohawk (Tres) father is also Lance a Crested Stafford and his mother is Zoriana a Raza Espanole. I have never heard of this canary have you.

So what do you think mine should be labled??

Beautiful. I'm drooling over those canaries. I have a pair of RCCB myself & they're great birds.

How exotic and wonderful canaries Sherry! Until I went on FF I thought there was one kind of canary, the yellow ones. silly me! I'm learning so much! It seems to me canaries are enjoying a surge in popularity lately. I'm seeing them everywhere! Was it fairly easy to sell your last batch of canary babies?

I have not see the razas as they aren't too common but I have read a good bit about them. A place in summerfield, fl sells them . They are the smallest canary breed and look like green singers. What is the size of yours?
raza

Staffords are bred for type and are usually very heavy bodied and have no neck.

and red factors are bred for color and are an average sized colobred canary

I'm not sure why she would breed these together...especially a raza and a stafford unless you want a very tiny stocky bird. Interesting mix to say the least.
I would say you would call yours hybrids or mutts :D
Have you heard any song yet? how do they sound?

Also wanted to add that it is not advisable to breed two crested canaries together.
With crest ..breed crest to non crest (plain head)
with goulsters breed corona (crest) with consort (plain head)
There is sometimes a lethal factor for the chicks...many times never hatching from the eggs. Also if they do hatch and survive... they get some messed up crest, I have been told.

Thanks for the info my hen is not crested. I couldn't tell you why she breed the Stafford and the Raza together , however, the chicks are just beautiful mix of colors.
