Can you elaborate on the 'red on the rump' for sexing your Lavenders, Hilary? Mine pair gave me fertile eggs although they haven't hatched any yet.

Now that I have them in the new flight cage,
maybe they will lay some eggs for me?
They just love it in the flight!

They are very private!
They have to go below the opening, like a tunnel!
They have to fly like humming birds to get the nest!
Fingers crossed!
I hope she is laying!?

My lavenders made a tunnel nest too, but they would not sit consistently to incubate the eggs. Oh well, maybe next time.

Glad to see your birds are building and constructing! Thats a good sign.

I was informed by successful breeders that my black tailed Lavenders usually make two nests. One for roosting and another for breeder. They said I should provide enough nesting sights for them to choose multiple nests if I wanted successful breeding.
Don't know if regular Lavenders do the same, but thought the info worth sharing.

That is interesting and makes sense now what my lavenders were doing. I thought they were trying to take over other nests in the flight, but maybe they were using more than one for themselves. Curious.

So far I have not tried to build another nest!
They are very protective of this one.
Any other bird comes near the male is in there chasing them away!
He is fearless about it!
