Sick Societies - Update

Post by Mozelle » Mon Nov 28, 2011 12:57 pm

Well... 4 down, including the 2 parents. I've only had 2 hens, so that was a bit more of a blow than otherwise. One of my spring nests seems to have produced a hen - no singing yet anyway - but it's going to be some time before I set Her up to breed.

Two of the babies look like they never even contracted what the rest had. They never lost their vigour, and ate well througout. I followed Cindy's advice and had them all on Ronivet and Amoxitex the last week. This week the two survivor youngsters are getting probiotics to bring their gut flora back up. Hopefully they'll be alright.
The rest of the flock all received Ronivet and seem to be strong and healthy. I was careful to wash/disinfect between cage care for fear of transferring anything.
Today is disinfect day.

Thanks again for your support everyone :)

Thanks Rancel, kind of feels like we're turning the corner now.

I'm sorry you lost some of the clutch, but am glad to hear things are turning around. I was telling my daughter yesterday that we have gone a while without any illness and BAM! My goldbreast hen was fluffed up and on the bottom of the cage. I guess I spoke too soon. She is better now after some Thrive, Calcium Plus and heat. I think she was trying to lay an egg. She is now in her nest, incubating??? [-o<

Sorry you lost so many birds... :( :( ....Were they fawn crested?.....I have some extra Societies, when you are ready, to replace any of your lost birds.....The parents that raised the Fawn crested you picked up at the show have 3 fawn crested babies that just fledged and they look like they will go to nest again soon....I also have pied chocolate left from the show that I would give you if you are interested?

Thanks everyone, it's nice to be able to talk with people who understand that it's not "just a bird" when losses happen.

Debbie and Brady - the birds I picked up from you at the show are all fine :) And thanks for the offers as well! I'm just going to make sure everyone is clear here before I introduce anyone new.
But I'll let you know once things settle out :)

Tracy, when it starts happening or they get sick it is like a bit of a shock at first then hurrying to get an answer as to why and then hoping the meds work.

If any happen to relapse again within a few days after you stop treatment you may need to treat again. I hope that will not be the case, hope all continue to improve.
