owls are tough to sex, best to look at the two bars which are thinner and less prominant in the hen, Also the white area looks creamier or slightly dirty on the hen. However heaps of people get it wrong and there is no definitive way to sex owls visually.BigBear0007 wrote:I agree about getting owls and they are cute!PrettyBird wrote:Go for the owls this time Jerry ;)
The trouble is getting a true pair!
I don't know how to sex them ?

Love your new pair of RCCB's, Jerry! That RCCB hen is definitely the correct species for her boy.
Be sure to tell us how you like them. I am especially interested to see if you enjoy their personalities...

Sometimes he will do his little dance with a piece of nesting material.
Below is a link to my video, but it's hard to see the little fellow dancing!

Congratulations on the Cordon Bleus. We love ours, such fun personalities! Have you decided if you are going to feed live food or not?

Congrats! I love my rccb's. They're incubating six eggs right now. Please, please, let them feed this time.

I saw him -- up there at the top, right? What a cutie!! They do sing in a lovely way -- the hens too at times.

They seemed to have found themselves a spot that they like to sit!
There is plenty of baskets for them to choose from, but they like this spot on top of some plastic greens.
Should I put some cocoa nut fiber or some flat open basket for them?
What kind of nests do they build in the wild?
Jerry

Re: RCCB's are they a true pair ?
I'm not sure but they must not be open. Mine all like the covered, large bamboo finch nests and are pretty flexible about nesting materials.
They are nuts about privacy though so if there's too much disturbance they will abandon quickly.
