I thought this information would be useful since it's not too often that you get a definitive diagnosis on why one of your birds dies. I lost a 2 year old BH/PB/YB Gouldian hen recently...owned her for six months. She laid two clutches of infertile eggs a couple of months ago. When she became obviously ill, she went quickly. One day I noticed her sleeping during the day with labored breathing. The next day she was on the cage floor sleeping with labored breathing. She died the next morning. I immediately had her refrigerated and dropped her off at the local vet school during lunch so she would be necropsied that afternoon. Her cause of death was ovarian cancer with metastasis to her lungs and one kidney. At least she didn't have anything contagious and the other finches are doing well. Who would have thought they could get cancer so young...if that was really her age that is. RIP Turnip...

That's so sad sorry for your loss. Thanks for sharing the results with us, at least you know the why and your other birds are safe from exposure to something bad.

I am sorry for you loss. Most times it is so unclear as to why a bird passed. Thank you for sharing your experience. It is a reminder that birds can pass away from cancers, other illnesses/disease.

We just don't think of finches getting cancer, but wow, I'm sorry for your loss. At the same time, grateful for your willingness to share.

Wow, so sorry. We forget that these creatures can suffer from the same maladies as us. Glad she didn't suffer long. RIP, Turnip

I'm so sorry for your loss. While a wonderful hobby for the most part, it does have its not-so-great moments.

I join others in thanking you for sharing your results. We so often just don't know why they die. It helps somehow to understand once in a while, anyway.
