Just for fun... Some pictures of Opaline...
Some "violet glance" on his wings and red highlight on his back head...
The other one his the brother of my syf who past away not so long ago
...He's molting slowly...
and sadly
, I've lost VDM1a...who was the hen who gave me some of my most interesting young. She's the mother of Opaline
She was really special to me... Not a good week...

Beautiful!

Just return to my place after some amazing ski time at Vail, Colorado and here's some new pictures of my little molting sisters...the daughters of Opaline cock and VDM3b hen...

I think I have clearly a Seagreen almost blue hen

(I will post on Seagreen topics too...other pictures..

The sea green one has some (very little number) green feathers on her neck...Secondary feathers(one each side) are really deep blue...Is somebody can quote about that?!?!
Can it be a pied green and blue back hen? or is it only (but really really nice) Seagreen???

Re: If not Seagreen, Opaline's Gouldian?
Isa.... they are probving to be interesting chicks indeed! The seagreen hen I have looked mostly a light green when she first started coloring up... I thought it was a SF Yellow (dilute) ... But before long the rest of the feathers were a bluish but neither parent was split to blue...at least that I knew of.
I will be watching these babies develpe with time... they are certainly beautiful.
Glad you had fun skiing, and made it back home safely.
My seagreen hen has laid another clutch and as of yesterday 2 have hatched. I have spent such little time in the gouldian breeding room... other than feeding, watering and cleaning. I need to make time to close band, seperate and color band some juvies from the parents cages and do a head count... I have about 25 nest with chicks in different stages
I will try to get some pics of the 2 fledglings from my pair... they have not started to color up yet.
The Blackhead hen's chicks look like normal green backs at this stage. I had paired her with a nice blue so we will see what the chicks will produce next year when they get bred... hopefully bred with a seagreen from this RH seagreen hen clutches

Re: If not Seagreen, Opaline's Gouldian?
Hi...
As I've just write on "Seagreen Gouldian topics", I've lost my sea green "sister"...
Although this bad new, life is good for me...the sons of VDM2b(The greenback one with some purple touch on the back and on the rump) and Mosaïque hen(my bizarre pied hen) are molting and you know what? One pf the single yellow factor blue back seems to to purple on his back and on his rump!!!

She is RH - an OH bird will always have a yellow colored beak in lieu of Red..

That's what I tough...If it's red head, she seems to be kind of "sick red"(don't know how to tell that!) or fade red like RH on blue back???nixity wrote:She is RH - an OH bird will always have a yellow colored beak in lieu of Red..

Re: If not Seagreen, Opaline's Gouldian?
I don't really see what you mean... I have noticed very often that the color of RH and OH on a white breasted bird is generally much brighter than on a PB.
But I am not sure why some are much "dirtier" looking in the mask.
These are three full siblings, each so different, but the brightest red color is on the two WB:

Re: If not Seagreen, Opaline's Gouldian?
I've see opposite too...really light red head with purple breast....and darker red head with lighter breast...
Maybe it has to do with "Dark factor"???

This is a RH PB GB hen and VDM3b (RH LB?/WB GB (or seagreen?)B/BB hen) who is the mother of the "red cheek sister"...)Maybe it has to do with "Dark factor"???
