Gouldian babies - trying to understand colouring!
Hi everyone,
I start every post the same: I'm new to Gouldian finches, so pardon my amateur questions!
I'm trying to understand why my Gouldian babies have different colour backs at the moment.
I've noticed 1 baby has a noticeably GREENback and 2 have BLUE(ER) backs.
The dad is RH/PB/GB and the mom is BH/PB/GB.
The picture below is of the babies when still in the nest, and I've posted a link below from a website of what they look like now (NOT my picture, NOT my babies - I can't get mine to sit still for a proper picture!).
If both parents are Greenbacks, the babies HAVE to be Greenbacks right?
It doesn't matter either way, I just want to understand why the difference in colour!
Thanks in advance!

Hey Jasmin - you nailed it in the File Comment for the photo - 1 green and 2 blue Gouldian babies!! Congrats.
Yes both parents can be green but apparently both your parents are also split to blue - no doubt about that from me!
Now you know why one is green and two are blue(er).

YEY!!
This is so exciting!
Thanks Liz
I didn't think twice about all 3 being Greenback until I read another members' (Isa..?) looong thread yesterday about being able to tell colouring when they are just hatched and featherless!
So I thought, wait a minute, there MUST be a reason why mine are different colours!
These little guys and the parents just won't stop amazing me!
Hopefully I'll become more educated on Genetics from these posts!
