Re: baby societies
oh wow. I have 5 crested in the nest. I am expecting them to fledge any day now. When I took them out to band them, I noticed a problem with one of them's foot. I am anxious for them to come on out so I can check on it. I am afraid that I may have one that will be a bit handicapped. I will post pics also when they fledge. Congrats on the babies!

Oooh - you're so lucky! My Soc's laid two clutches of eggs - the first didn't hatch. And the second are now turning much DARKER. I'm wondering if they are all DIS or if they are about to hatch? Do you know if the eggs of your SF's turned a lot darker just before hatching?
Can't wait for baby pics!

Me? Not that I could see but I have 2 two-week old LG chicks in the nest since hatching and they are sitting on the Soc's eggs. I take them out for pic's once every few days and that's about the only way I can get to see the eggs getting darker. I don't like to move the LG chicks but I will nudge them again tomorrow to get a peak. Happily the foster Soc parents don't mind my fiddling. I was able to remove the nestbox last week to band the LG chicks and when I put the box back on the cage - the parents jumped right back in as always.dfcauley wrote:Anything new on your eggs?
So no hatching that I know of today but I could only see 2 eggs easily. I'll let you know when something does happen with the Soc eggs. She was sitting on the LG eggs when she started laying her own 4 eggs on April 5 and sat on them as well.
How long did your Soc eggs take to hatch? Do you recall?
