My blue gould feather re-growth

Post by kheather » Tue May 29, 2012 5:02 pm

My gouldian Papa Smurf started going bald shortly after I got him, while he was raising a clutch of six. When All the babies fledged and weaned I quarantined him briefly and gave him a round of iverlux, then put him in with the young males in a SW window( about 4 weeks ago). Since they are also molting, they are getting eggfoood and feather fast regularly. He has always acted perfectly healthy. Well I am so happy, because he not only is molting finally....but is regrowing the feathers he had lost on his cheeks around his eyes and back of his head, as well as he has a patch coming back in on his chest :D :D . So now the only thing I know is wrong is when he sings no sound what so ever can be heard. I can hear his calls and chirps perfectly clear. So maybe before I got him he had mites and this is residual damage?? When I first got him I quarantined him and gave him ronivet 12%, and scatt. I have since treated him with the iverlux. Dont know if the balding is related to the voice loss in song. But what is apparent is he was not recieving proper care prior to me getting him. I will say I seem to have hit a point of turing him into his beautiful self again! It has been my mission to get him in peak condition. I have nooooo idea how old he even is, but he produced 6 healthy babies for me, and otherwise has always seemed happy.

What a beauty! You will have to post more pictures as he progresses. I would love to see him all filled out.

Heather,

How's his voice now?

My male had lost his voice completely too and I "assumed" he had ASM and treated with Iverlux...voice came back after 2 days.

Just wondering if you little guy got his voice back too?

I will have to have a listen, but I know it is not fully back, a few days ago when he would sing, he would sing the full song but I can only hear a little scratchy singing at a few spots in his song. He is looking and feeling good though! I just wonder if it's not residual damage from mites, like scar tissue.

He is looking handsome finally, just top of his little skull has pins, his whole body molted nicely! His voice is returning, not crystal clear yet but more sound than it had.
