Gouldian Head and Back Color Question??

Post by DanteD716 » Wed Jun 27, 2012 1:14 am

I would like to get some gouldians soon... hopefully YB (I like BB too, just not as much, all colors are great though) as they are my favorite. WB is my favorite breast color, and BH my favorite head color, but I have NEVER seen a BH YB? Let alone a BH WB YB? What's up with that??

I want a BH WB in every back color :D

That's because black head yellow body gouldians have white heads.

http://www.finchinfo.com/genetics/lady_ ... colors.php
The yellow gene suppresses the expression of the color black on the birds, so any area which would normally be black on a green bird appears white or off-white on a yellow bird. This is why genetically black headed yellow birds appear to have white or near-white heads.

It's just like the blue body gouldians suppressing the red and yellow colors so genetically red and yellow heads are salmon color and the bellies are off white instead of yellow.

Black headed yellow back has a grey head instead of the black. It is possible to find a BH WC YB but they are harder to find.

Candace- Your birds are VERY beautiful. I can't stop looking at them.

Dante,
So is the final call? I thought you want to get GC?
Oh I know - your bird’s addiction level is going up high on RED level.
he he he you want to have them all don't you?
Don't blame you... we all like that.

Which Gould in those photos would you pick beside I know you want them all? 8)

That's a SF Yellow male with a white or lilac breast that gives the charcoal colored head.

If he's DF his head will be cream/off-white like a hen, such as this guy:

Here's another BH WB Yellow hen - one of my all time favorite birds. I wish I would have kept her when I downsized last year :(

I breed most every color. I usually breed a BH WB GB hen to a
BH PB/WB sf YB (dilute)
Or a BH WB YB hen (or split to WB) to a BH WB GB normal male. or a PB/WB or a LB/WB normal male :D

Beautiful bird Tiffany. Dante is trying to get the dark coloring on the head so he really wants to breed for SF and not DF. :D
