What kind of zebra mutation?

Post by Kaurahiutale » Wed Jul 25, 2012 12:12 pm

Hi! I saw and photographed this zebra finch in a local pet store back in 2008. I didn't notice anything special in this bird back then, just because I really didn't know anything about finch colors/mutations. Now I know a little more, I rediscovered this photo in my hard drive and wondered what kind a zebra finch is this.

Image

I have no other information about this bird, other than that this photo was taken in 2008 in a pet store in Northern Finland, where the birds came from other countries (not from local breeders etc). No info about birds age, parents, current location etc. Just this photo.

I would like to know what color mutation this bird is. Something I have never seen before of after this, not even in the internet. In Finnish forum someone said this could be fawn + CFW -cross, but in the ZebraFinchInfo -site fawn+CFW was shown as a CFW with fawn markings. I don't remember if this bird had really red/ruby eyed, but in the photo it kinda looks like that. But I'm not sure is that really the thing, or something to do with the flash of the camera...

Can anyone tell something more about birds like this, what mutation are they and are they rare? Or is it even a standard mutation, just a single bird with weird coloration? What kind of a combination could produce a bird like this?

Happy to hear your thoughts! And sorry for my clumsy English, it isn't my native language. :)

She looks like a female Isabel or Florida Fancy. :) Isabels/Florida Fancies are/is not considered a rare mutation, but it is harder to find depending on your location, than the common gray. As for what this female could produce via offspring would depend on what mutation male you would pair her up with. :)
God is my redeemer and it is through Him I have found eternal happiness. I am grateful, I am blessed, and I am truly loved. I wish all this and more for all members of our finch forum family. May you all be blessed and highly favored. <3

Definately a pretty Isabel. They can have ruby red eyes. I have a few that do.
