anyone know the list of finches i can have without a licence
in nsw australia,
ive checked on the wildlife page but they dont mention societys or caneries ,so what can i have i want the whole list

from this list the only species you CANNOT keep without a licence are:

Plum Headed Finch
Crimson Finch
Red Browed Firetail
Beautiful Firetail
Diamond Firetail
Red Eared Firetail
Long Tailed Finch
Black Throated Finch
Masked Finch
Double Barred Finch
Pictorella Munia
Chestnut Breasted Munia
Yellow Rumped Munia

someone let me know if i've missed any.

in South Australia the double bar/owl finch doesnt require a permit any more. dont know about the other states though.

if you can buy cordon's then you can have them, no permit required

firetailone, I don't know if it is different in Oz but usually you can keep birds without a license if they are not native to your country. So I would think that you would be able to keep all African, Asian European ect birds without a license. If that is the case you can check on the FIC which birds originate from which region.

In South Africa we need licenses for some waxbills like Blue Breasted Cordon Bleu and St Helena Waxbills because they occur naturally here.

As for Aus birds you can keep I'll leave that up to the experts and looks like you already have a good list there.
