Firefinch with bad feather quality

Post by Gabi » Mon Oct 01, 2012 12:39 pm

My male firefinch started to loose quality in his wing feathers. I was hoping for a molt, but he doesn't molt either. He is basically loosing the fine downfeatherpart of his wing feathers, only the main feather shaft is remaining. It starts to impact his capability of flying.

Everythig else is ok and all my other finches are doing fine. I feed seeds, sprouts, egg, life food, calcium, broccolli, etc.

Has anyone seen this before? Any tips?

Thanks!

Gabi

Hi!

You need to supplement his diet with Bee Pollen & kelp/seaweed.

The Bee Pollen you can sprinkle, as is, a bit on top of his seed & treats... so he realizes it is fine to eat!

I like to buy a high quality seaweed wrap for sushi. I rip a bit off a sheet and tear it into small flakes, like fish-food, and sprinkle this over the seed in the same way.

Google search: 'finch bee pollen balding health'

"Because the Lady Gouldian finch is a very "picky eater" it is hard to insure a proper diet. Bee Pollen contains amino acids, omega3 fatty acids, complex carbohydrates, up to twenty five naturally trace elements and all know natural vitamins. Bee Pollen contains bioflavonoids which promote health in many different ways. Bee Pollen is also very rich in enzymes which are necessary for the digestion and absorption of nutrients. Bee Pollen is an extra insurance policy to guarantee good health for my Gouldians."

I hope this helps your bird!
:D
Thank you,
Kris

I also use bee pollen (I buy mine from morningbird or from my local farmers market) and mix in in with the soft food I give, the birds love it, and it really shows in their feather quality while they are moulting. Makes the gouldians moult much quicker and smoother. I've found the same with the other birds as well.
