What are these babies? (Mouth Markings)
What are these babies? (Mouth Markings)
Hi, I was feeding these little Zebra finches hatchlings and noticed the older chick has different mouth markings then the younger chick. The older chick's beak is also lighter than the younger one and the eye color is different. i was wondering if someone could tell me what mutations they could possibly be? Here are some pictures.

CFW (Chestnut Flanked White) maybe?
Congrats on the babies!

Thanks in advance. The main difference I see is just one is a lighter color. I was hoping someone with a more experienced eye could help me out. The Dad was a normal grey and mom was a CFW. The parents didn't have any visual splits.

I would guess Continental CFW? It seems to have too light a head for the regular CFW or Fawn chicks, but this is not my best species. They are cute!

In certain light he/she's pupil is red. I think he/she body is to dark to be a Continental CFW. I looked at efinch.com and I still can't tell what mutation he could be.

If the dad is normal and the mom is CFW this is what you would expect
50% Normal Females
50% Normal/Chestnut flanked white Males
It is possible that both may have hidden genes that do not show up in every clutch...you will be able to tell more once the baby matures and feathers out some.

To be honest it appears to be the same gape as a fawn cheek(when mixed with silver, my favorite mutation)
in coloration and size of markings...

Thanks. I'll be happy no matter what mutations they turn out to be as long as they are healthy. I love these little babies.

Another picture I took this evening. Messy little eaters.

Thanks. I think the youngest on is a normal Grey but I'm not sure on the older one. His eyes were pink but now his eyes are darker. Here is this evenings picture. His eye's wasn't that dark yesterday. In certain light he has red pupils. His beak and sink is still lighter. I'm thinking normal grey or maybe lightback. I guess when he gets feathers I'll no for sure.
