Looking for Strawberry Finches

Post by sugrpootsmom » Sun Jun 22, 2008 8:50 pm

I am exhausted, I can not find a pair of strawberry finches for sale anywhere. At first I wanted them as pets but I have since heard they are getting very difficult to find and are in danger of becoming impossible to get in the US so I thought I would help re-populate by breeding them. Any suggesterions on where to look?

Yes, Strawberry finches are hard to find, but there are exceptions. Several people have found them at Petcos or PetsMarts lately, so someone is breeding them to sell to the chains! If you find any, I would say snap them up. They used to be imported from Asia, but because of bird flu, they are no longer coming in.

I have several breeding pairs, and I have babies, but I will not have anything to sell for quite some time. At first, I would like to swap some of my babies with others that have babies, so we can get other bloodlines. Hopefully, if enough people can have success with these guys, they will be more available in the future.

Believe it or not, I got two Strawberries off craigslist. It never hurts to post there and everywhere else you can think of that you are looking for Strawberries. (But don't post in Texas, that's where I'm looking!  )
