Re: Please help... sick society finch (eggbound?)
Hey,
I also thought of a tumor. But the lump feels very much like an egg. It is however very weird she still can't get it out and it's been so long now. I have heard it is possible to massage the vent and apply some kind of oil to it, is this true? How does this work and will it help?
@LuxandLolita, still so sorry for your loss. It seems your Lolita and my finch are going through the same thing now. I hope my finch will use some of Lolita's strength to make it through!

Yeah, if it is an egg, I have heard massaging that part softly and applying some kind of lubrication like oil will help pass the egg easier. That is what I heard during the time my female was ill.sokje wrote: Hey,

Can you take her to a vet to see what it actually is?

Re: Please help... sick society finch (eggbound?)
Hey guys,
I almost forgot about this.
I put her in a seperate cage with a desk lamp and a towel around the cage and everything, applied calcium, but she only got worse. I put her back in the cage with the other finches because she was so happy there.
She worsened quickly (already in the seperate cage) to the point where she would lose balance and tumble at least twice when tryijng to reach the food. Its a good thing she was hand tamed, I would pick her up and put her near the food so she didn't have to move as much.
Today I found her dead on the cage floor. I feel horrible..she was such a sweetie. I used to have her on my shoulder and spend a few hours with her sleeping there. It sucks so much.

this one was taken monday, cuddling in the nest with her (not sure, I have another female) 2 babies

this one was taken yesterday, she is the top middle one. you can see she was resting her head on a baby, already very weak.........
rip..

Re: Please help... sick society finch (eggbound?)
So sorry to hear about your loss. I once had a painted finch that had the exact same problem. I wish I still had the picks.. Unfortunatlely she wasn't egg bound but had a cist. This was also near her vent and very red and sore. There was nothing I could do for her at the time as I was treating her for being egg bound which she infant wasnt. I unfortunately couldn't afford to take her to an avian vet at the time so she did pass away. However it has taught me that of something like this occurs again that it is not my hen being egg bound but something else. I wish I had seen your post earlier sorry...

She fought long and hard like Lolita did.. she didn't want to leave you nor did she want to leave her babies. But she will live on through them and hopefully they will bring you cheer of seeing her in each little baby.
May they be hers biologically or not, she will still live on through them.
RIP little girl, fly with Lolita and Ivy
