I've had this happen a few times, where I've corresponded with a person several times, and then they say they have decided to keep the birds (usually after I have asked a few too many questions). I can understand placing an ad and then changing your mind, but I don't understand when people go to the bother of corresponding, and then later changing their mind. It almost sounds like this person realized that you knew the birds were not healthy--they'd rather sell to someone who doesn't know anything, so then when the birds die, they can blame the new owner.

And with an expo available to you this weekend, you are much better off trying to locate what you want there.

Agreed, those birds look to be in horrible condition.

I believe she probably is both embarrassed and her dreams of cashing in $$ are quickly going out the window.

I would not purchase the birds from her, but I know it is hard to turn your back on birds in need like this. I seriously doubt the authorities will do much of anything - look at all the trouble I had getting someone to even LISTEN when I was trying to report a previously complained about PUBLIC pet shop with horrendous conditions. I would not be surprised to ride out there today and find them still open for business. The world does not view birds on the same level as cats, dogs, rabbits, etc.

What you COULD do to help the birds is maybe send the person an email giving her the forum address, tell her she can read the posts anonymous but will pick up a GREAT deal of bird care tips here as to diet, bird health, etc. Then just hope and pray she cares enough to check it out. Or link her to the Finch Info Center (not even mentioning the forums as I'm sure she will feel like a fool when she sees this post). Maybe she's just ignorant about how to properly care for birds and has been feeding them only subpar seed, ignoring other warning signs etc.

I thought the same thing - that cage is far too clean for that many birds, and looks staged. There doesn't seem to be any water source either.

Oh wow, I am disgusted by the condition of these birds I am infuriated that someone could allow any living creature to deteriorate right in front of their own eyes and then LIE and say they are in good condition.

She should be ashamed, good thing she didn't try to sell them to me, I have a knack for telling it how it is! ERRRRRRR [-X

Hope you get the birds you want! Bless your heart for even considering a rehab =D> Good luck
