He's adorable. xD I love the society finches. I love their little puffy song and dance. Out of all my birds, my male society sings the most.

Acelin_Wolf

I hear ya, mine doesn't want to stop singing & this is my 2nd day owning them. I think they are flirting with the female I just got. Do you have any other species living with the society?

My society is best friends with a silverbill. Both male. They sing all day and snuggle.

My pair of societies are in with javas, waxbills, zebras, and one spice finch. xD They all get along wonderfully now that I've connected 2 cages together.

Acelin_Wolf, that's so cool! Just trying to get an idea of what I can mix with when I combine 2 cage.

Societies are usually very friendly to other species. It's the others that pick on them, from what I've seen at petsmart and home. xD BUT not all species will be jerks, especially given enough space.

I love my mini aviary :D

Acelin_Wolf, I love your mini aviary too! Sounds like a collection I want to have one day! These societies are so tame and its only day 2. They were singing and happy all day and I was afraid I would hear it throughout the night and not get any sleep but nope, right when I shut off the lights, they all got quiet and went inside the nest. Such good behaviors!

Here is the link to the cage size calculator. You put in the length and width of your cage, and it tells you how many birds should live in the cage:
http://www.finchinfo.com/housing/cage_s ... ulator.php

When you put in the current size of your cage-22"x22", it will tell you your cage is suitable for 1-2 birds. If you double the length, as it would be if you hook a second cage together with your first, 44"x22", it will tell you that you can put 3-4 birds in that cage.

You already have 4 birds in your single cage. That's crowded. When you double your cage, it will be appropriate for the birds you have already. Not more. You now have males and females, so the possibility of breeding and increasing numbers is already present.

You cannot add more birds when you double the cage size. You are already full. It would not be fair to, nor healthy for, the birds you already have, to add more, especially of a different species. Do you really want to knowingly mistreat your beautiful birds?

Slow down, take a step back, start reading and learning and listening, please, before you make a mistake for which those little birds will suffer. There is so much excitement with first birds, the thrill of new acquisitions, but you need to reign it in for the sake of the little lives you will be playing with.

Hi Nerien,

I hear you loud and clear and have been reading & researching as well as asking around. I put the dimensions of my cage into the calculator (28x28) and received an output of up to 3 birds. There will be no more additions to my army and if they do start a small family, I am ready to take on that challenge and will definitely purchase another cage. Hey, they seem very happy and I'm sure they are better off here than they are at the pet store in those crowded cages.

okey dokey. When I looked up that cage & price on petco.com, the only one that matched picture & price is listed as 22.8" x22.8", not 28 x28", which is where I get the smaller finch numbers from. If they've got a bigger version in the store, maybe I should run up to our petco and see if they'd sell me one or two for that price! good deal!

28"x28" is a nice size cage for your birds. If you decide to get a 2nd that you are going to attach, I would go for spice finches rather than zebras. Zebras are bullies...especially when they are nesting. I wish I would have known this before I purchased 3 pairs of them. You may consider using the 2nd cage separately for a different species all together. There are so many to choose from. Bets of luck... :)

So I am confused, did you exchange your original cage for a different one? It looks like the same cage, but it's hard to tell, can you post a pic of the new one? Is it fancy like the first one? or did you keep the first one... I am confused :?
