Planning Problem

Post by Lithium » Fri Jun 14, 2013 7:13 pm

I'm planning a large flight for my Zebra Finches and I need help planning something. The flight will be 60" x 24" x 24" and I want to have the ability to put a divider in it. I'm having trouble planning how to put this in. What are some suggestions of how I can do this?

What are you building your cage out of?
You could leave a space to slide in a piece of wire mesh, hardboard, plywood, coro-plast, etc from the front (or the top, depending on your configuration). Just frame your cage front (or top) with a 1/2" or so gap in the middle to slip it into place, and a peg, ledge or something to support it in the back.
Or you could use a flexible material (canvas, vinyl, etc, or jointed pieces of wire mesh that can be folded) that could be inserted through the door and hung from the top and secured at the bottom, front and back with clips or hooks.
I am finishing up my cage right now, and it has a divider made of coro-plast and another made of cage wire. I used divided breeder cages for the front of my cage and designed it so I can split it into up to four separate compartments. It's been one challenge after another, but it's just about finished.
My best advice: Be patient and flexible, and figure on spending twice as much money and twice as much time as you originally planned!
