Just curious... is he tame? Was that even part of the plan? I raised cockatiels many years ago and the sole purpose of handfeeding was to raise a tame bird.

Every time I have had to handfeed the chicks are tame and fly to me to eat. When they are weaned they forget they ever knew me.

Debbie that was really enjoyable! It baffles me how fast they change. Truly the ugly duckling to beautiful swan scenario (although they aren't ugly in my eyes anymore... well maybe a little  )

Thanks again! =D>

I think this thread is so informative and helpful to those who are facing handfeeding for the first time, that it should be a sticky. Nothing like a visual to help those who really don't know what to expect. Kudos to you, Debbie, for posting this! =D>

Hi Debbie thanks for the photo growth chart! Such a labor of love! I am having a big problem and I just can't figure it out....My birds lay a HUGE amount of eggs, sit and hatch them and them bury them! I am so sad now I won't give them a nest..what do you think is happening? The aviary is a large flight cage! Any insight and suggestions would be so welcome. thanks! Sue

Sorry you are going through this Sue. It could be many different things. How many birds are in the flight and what species? What are you feeding them?
I'm bet if you start a new topic so people can find it better you will get a few responses that could help.
Welcome to the forum :)

Can you post instructions on how to make that brooder? How do you keep the interior tank floating?

The inside tank is held in place by the white pieces of plexiglass that you see in the picture. The plexi has a groove cut in it to hold it in place to the outer tank. The inside tank is screwed into the plexi at the top.
We made it from scraps and bits and pieces we had in the house. :)

Hi I’m new here; I have a couple of questions. What do you feed them when they are new born and do you keep feeding them the same food until they are fully grown? Also what temperature do you keep the water at on your brooder? Thank you in advance.
