Gouldian finches

Post by jeanne223 » Wed Sep 17, 2008 9:20 am

My gouldians laid three eggs. This is their first clutch. I did a nest check last evening and picked up an egg that was cracked and full of blood. I opened it up didn't know what else to do and the little baby was
alive but didn't look as though he was ready to come out just yet. I put him back into the nest. Should I leave it alone or check it again to see if the little guy didn't make it. I wish I had never gone into the nest at all
Has anyone ever experienced such a thing?

I think your better of to let them take care of it,with gouldians they dont put up with nest checks very well, are they still setting ? Usualy the first clutch is new to them too good luck and check out the link to your left finch info. center under spiecies gouldians good info.

You will have to check again now to remove the chick if it dies.It may...or may not have been ready to hatch....If it was it MAY survive and the others hatch soon. If the chick dies remove it ,then leave the rest alone and don't interfere further.
You will know soon enough if the others hatch.

What if the baby is dead shouldn't I remove it?
