Re: New Bird Imports Into The U.S
It's my understanding that the birds are all treated with an antibiotic and monitored for the 30 days. Sometimes they aren't too kind if they notice a specific species doing poorly...they aren't just buried...

Wish we knew what they were already treated with.....birdclaws wrote: It's my understanding that the birds are all treated with an antibiotic and monitored for the 30 days. Sometimes they aren't too kind if they notice a specific species doing poorly...they aren't just buried...![]()

I tried asking questions before and was never given the name of any medicine, just told that it was a general antibiotic. Maybe offering probiotics ASAP to those who get some of these incoming birds would be a great start at our own quarantine....

I think the probiotics is an excellent idea! Thanks, Brian, I will do this with mine when they come in. Probiotics and rest, and then go from there.birdclaws wrote:Sunbay wrote:Wish we knew what they were already treated with.....birdclaws wrote: It's my understanding that the birds are all treated with an antibiotic and monitored for the 30 days. Re: New Bird Imports Into The U.S
I have heard reports from several people here in So.California that there are 1,800 - 2,500 strawberries at the import station in LA.

I'm surprised Birds Express isn't advertising them. Maybe they presold them to select customers. That is an incredible number of Strawberries, and if true, there should no longer be a shortage, as long as most people who get them breed them.

Re: New Bird Imports Shipment confirmation!
For what it's worth, I just got an e-mail with shipping details on my order from Paradise Earth (also known as Bird Products).
Will be arriving by air on Friday.
I am getting a pair of Strawberries, and a pair of Red-faced Crimsonwings (Cryptospiza reichenovii).
Went in with shipping with a local friend who is getting several different species as well.
Will let you all know when they arrive!

That is exciting. Can't wait to see pics of your new finches.

I'd like to wish everyone who was fortunate enough to get in on this the very best of luck!
Hopefully we'll be hearing your success stories soon, and these imports will be fewer and further between as more captive bred birds hit the market.
Don't forget the pictures!

yes, yes, pictures. I'd love to get the 'Berries'. but the price would be high considering the Shipping on top of it. I will have to live vicariously through others. (for now)

I plan on visiting a wholesaler tomorrow. I'm mostly interested in the blue billed firefinches, but who knows if anything else has come in.
