one wing blue and the other green on newly fledged gouldian

Post by kevin » Fri Oct 10, 2008 11:33 pm

Has anyone ever hear of a gouldian finch that is completely split with two different wing colors. I have a newly fledged gouldian that has one blue wing and one green wing. Is this possibly a new mutation? Both parents are split to blue and have had blue backed offspring as well as green backed offspring in the past. This is the first time I have ever seen a gouldian with two different wing colors on the same bird.

Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated.

I've read about birds who were "split" in one way or another (such as one side female coloring and the other side male). Those were some wacky genetics, though - kind of a "perfect storm". I'd love to see a picture. Chances are that it will disappear when the chick molts out, but you never know....
