Hello, I found some species of Finches that highly interest me.

I really like the Orange Crowned Bishops, Lady Gouldians- Green Black, and Owl Finches. Can these be mixed safely? Also, does anybody have suggestions on where to get appropriate cages? I assume the ones at the big box stores are insufficient. Thank you!

I forgot to add.....can you keep any kinds of live plants in a finch enclosure? Or is that a big no-no?

there's a lot of great info on finches in the Finch Information Center at the left of the site.

I'm no expert on those species, but I believe bishops may be aggressive birds, not good to keep with any others. Gouldians and owls, though are quiet birds that could get along.

the bigger the cage, the better, especially length. PetCo carries a finch cage that is 30"l x 18"w x 18"h that makes a good home - you could buy two, and attach them end to end to make a 5 foot long cage. I'm sure some other members will chime in with some good websites.

oh, and there are safe live plants for birds, but most birds tend to destroy the plants too much. fake silk or plastic plants work just as well, are more durable, and easily cleaned/replaced.

I have owls and gouldians together without any problem, though they are in an aviary and not a cage. They have very different personalities and will need to have their own territories so if you can give them a big enough cage for that they will be fine.
Never had orange bishops but I understand them to be aggressive so I wouldn't add them.

I agree with the others' comments. My owls get along with other species, but they take over nests sometimes. As long as there are plenty of different perches and nests in different spots, they should do alright with gouldians. I would not get the Orange Weavers, unless you plan to give them a large flight alone. They need the space and are aggressive.

Thanks! I see the cage you were talking about.......is it fairly easy to remove one side and add another?

If I did that I could safely house two birds, or would it now be enough space for four?
