Glad to hear you have power back at least, and that your pets all did fine (except for the fish). I'm having a new heat pump installed today, so right now all the heat is turned off. I'll be glad when this is over!

Well finals are done. Yay! Still have a tree on the house and no heat. :/ The control panel and some other stuff got fried on the the unit and all the parts aren't in yet. Obviously they don't mind the cold as they all took a bath this afternoon when I went by the house to feed and water. The babies looked so pathetic. It was their first bath and they didn't really know what to do. So they just dunked themselves. I actually put a small electric heater on one side of the cage for an hour or so to help them dry out a bit. Other than that everyone is doing fine. :)

The definitely don't seem to mind cold water. However, the other morning I warmed it more than I usually do, and for a change they decided to go in right then rather than messing around letting it get cold, and they looked so surprised - a sauna! They didn't want to come out and it was even more of a mob scene than usual. There was little water left in the "pool" by the time the last got in - LOL.

Got heat last night! Yay! I love it. Never knew how much I missed it. And the birds are certainly enjoying it more. :)

I have the same problem here in Maine as our heat/hot water/stove is entirely electric and goes out very often. In an emergency we use this "new" method of heating with flower pots. I did not read this particular link and methods vary so you can Google other links to get a real picture of what to do. Also, if you only have one flower pot, I've seen someone balance it on the edge of a bunch of glass candles just to hold the heat in. I also use the thermal blankets on top of my bird cages to reflect back any heat...and heat up rocks outside and keep them on a cookie sheet near the cages. Candles without toxic chemicals a must! http://www.trueactivist.com/how-to-easi ... ea-lights/
