Benjamin is behaving herself..
I took out their hide.
I took out their big brown food dish, they would sit in it even if there is fresh vegetables and start rearranging all of the vegetable to make a somewhat nest.
They have biggish yellow seed holders... and yep. Going for that now.
I need to get them smaller feeders cause otherwise Benjamin will start getting Puberty-ish and start darting at Roseanne - not George..
No no, not ever George. George.. never gets in trouble she's the Marsha of the clan.. pretty little beady eyes bat and they are all head over heals for her. She would watch all the drama, and there she would be sitting pretty preening herself.
I couldn't find Rocksteady this morning.. wasn't sure where he was theres nowhere to hide. he was behind John... lol hes so little I never notice him.
I have to clean the house - like a mad woman, i have a house showing. I can't wait to move!

Re: Benjamin is behaving herself..
Chirpy, I'm glad you posted. I was wondering if the cease fire was holding.
You might try the vacation feeders so many of us use. They are trouble free, less messy than cups, and there's no way it would look like a nest. They can eat two to one if the second is determined, but mine usually sit sideways in them so it's one bird at a time. You would need a couple. I'm sure Benjamin wouldn't share! Then you could use smaller treat cups to have more feeding stations.
Good luck with the housecleaning. When you finish, could you come give mine a good scrubbing? It doesn't look like I'm ever going to get around to it.

Re: Benjamin is behaving herself..
chirpy omg I laughed so loud at the title of your post... I love your birds names. LOL! I think I love them more than mine!
And good luck with everything! Glad to hear they are doing better now! All my girls are for now in jail because they all keep laying eggs.. so they have to stay by themselves!!! No matter what I do! I can't really separate them to where they can't see each other. I have literally.. 11 in Beards cage, 8 in Terminators... not including the 4 in Kuri's that I took out.. and the 3 Puppy laid recently that smashed on the bottom.. and the other 40-50 I took away from Terminator and Kuri.. and a few from Beard. I am drowning in eggs over here!!!!!!!!

Re: Benjamin is behaving herself..
dcompt Benjamin is doing better. She loathed Daddy.. now its onto Mommy. SHE HATES HER right now but she isn't doing much about it. She will maybe give her "beak" once a day (and I am home all day so if it were more I would notice.) Yes I am going to get one of those are they the ones that collect the hulls??? are you talking about them?
Would you believe... after all that cleaning I did.. LOL the basement was flooded! I hear hubs yelling "aghhhhhh (obscene language insert)" x10 all that snow we had that was stuck in the storm window like thing was trickling in... it wasnt bad but def the potentials would be like "nah thanks" lol.
@fhgwgads Mine have stopped FOR NOW (duh duh dahhhh!)!!! no more eggs.. but today/tonight they have balled ontop of each other in the food dish. DANG IT DUUUUDE! i knew this was going to happen tonight they have been SMUGGLING bits of romaine in there lol.

Yes, chirpy, those are the feeders I was talking about. I love mine and so do the birds. They can eat at the tray and the tops are favorite perching places.

Glad to hear Benji is doing better. I have the feeders Donna spoke about too. They're awesome! I have 3 in my society cage because Curly was pulling tail feathers while his cage-mates ate. He's out of that flight now, but I left all 3 anyway.

dcompt you'd think Roseanne would put up a fight right? Nope. She flies away. Rocksteady just watches. Funny thing is... Benjamin loves rocksteady now.
Women... Lol.
@Ginene are the feeders the one from lady gouldian? I've seen different ones. I should get one to see if thy like ;)

Re: Benjamin is behaving herself..
chirpy is it possible that Benjamin is going through a phase and testing to see who she can dominate? Life would be so much easier if we were bird whisperers, lol. Sometimes I just don't understand my birds. And today Puppy was continuing with ripping pieces of paper from the bottom.. but she seems to think she is somehow going to build a nest on the ceiling of her cage!

Those are the ones. They have clear sides and a tan colored top. You can also get at Glamorous Gouldians. There's a minimum order there, but if you need anything else, you could compare shipping.
I have four in my cage. They are in a line, and always one is almost ignored and almost nothing is eaten from it. It's not always the same, and they have the same food in them. I don't know what makes one the pariah among feeders each time.

Re: Benjamin is behaving herself..
chirpy that's my Terminator. For the longest time I thought she was a boy. And apparently she thinks so too.. other than laying 500 eggs a day. She's been like this since fledging.. probably before. I really wonder what it is that makes them so determined to be the alpha "male". She certainly is nothing like Kuri.. who is the ultimate mama and such a shy and submissive female finch. Even Sparrow is a sweetie and will only stand up for himself if he is pushed to his limits. Hopefully she gets over herself soon! I wonder is Roseanne will eventually squash her with her big butt, lol.

Re. nest building... All of mine are boys, and guess what? They are trying too. I just hope none of them decide to try and lay eggs, cause that would be when I throw in the towel.

Re: Benjamin is behaving herself..
All of mine are males and they love their nests. I took them out once, and it just wasn't worth it. Let them have them. I have two pairs and a trio, all expert builders, more or less. No eggs. But now one almost always stays behind in the nest, probably to foil any dastardly grass thieves.

I give my male canary and my male Zebbie nests and they love pulling them apart. My male star finch, unfortunately, doesn't appear to know what to do with a nest! He's such a sweetie, but there is definitely not much upstairs.

Re: Benjamin is behaving herself..
So.. its been a few days.
I kept the yellow bigger sized food dish in there to see what they would do... and i havent been out for three days since hub had the car and was staying at his friends - school started for him and he had orientation, school... full day of school, then work til 3am.. it just wasn't worth driving home to leave in a few hours.
APPARENTLY....
they can no longer fit in there together.
3 would be in the seed holder.
2 on the perch right above them.
they slept separately for 1 night... LOL SOC's they didn't like this system. They prefer to be together even though one is the obvious black sheep! Now they sleep in a line... like little marshmallows. I put a terry cloth on the front of the cage so that they aren't disturbed!
Ben is being nicer though. I keep getting BEN and JOHN mixed cause from the back they look the same their head is the same crest and the only diff is their breast. IF i were to see something catty going on I have to wait until the chestnut turns around to say "BEN you BETTER stop that.. I told you before.. this is uncalled ofr behavior!"
