Snake visits my aviary
This fellow was seen in a Bechino nest in my aviary today 12 noon. They abandoned and I lost the single baby. Wonder for how long has he been terrorizing my birds? Poor breeding lately.

Re: Snake visits my aviary
Very difficult to say whether eggs have disappeared - they do fall out and others brake.
Poor breeding attempts lately and finches not settling down nicely - a positive YES.

Pests can be such a pain. I've lost good birds to rats and snakes. It is so disheartening.

Re: Snake visits my aviary
Snakes are terrible at not only eating eggs and birds, but they keep the occupants so stirred up that they abandon nests, etc. Glad you found this culprit, as he may be the reason for poor breeding season. It would be difficult to keep one that size out of the aviary.

Rat + Bird = dead bird or dead eggs
Snake + Bird = = dead bird or dead eggs
Rat traps + rats = dead rats - good thing
Snakes - a bit harder to say because they are part of the environment and we upset the balance by overbreeding our pets (which they see as prey items). If the snakes can be stopped from getting in, probably the best. Glad you "caught" the culprit.
